Title: It's There my Homage's Due
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood/manga)
Pairing: Roy/Ed

Summary: Roy finds his plans to save Amestris put on hold by a force not even the Fuhrer can deny: fairy tale logic. Will he succeed in helping Ed find a loophole in his curse, break it the old-fashioned way, or discover that there's a reason these things are played by the rules?

Okay, references! The title comes from The Mystic's Dream by Loreena McKinnitt (on youtube), which was the second song added to my vibe-building playlist for this fic. The first was Bat Country (also on youtube) and I was going to call it Who Makes a Beast of Himself, but I couldn't get the fic nearly angsty enough to justify it, so here we are.
The gold to chocolate thing is for Cookie Clicker players (ie myself).
Some flower meanings were lifted from Flora Symbolica by John Ingram: Andromeda for "Will you help me?", snowdrop for "a friend in need", and clover for "I promise". The rest came from Wikipedia, because I'm lazy.
Alchemical animal symbolism is from the Alchemy Web Site.
G. S. Barbot de Villeneuve is the author of the oldest known version of Beauty & the Beast. Ms. McKinley refers to Robin McKinley, who's written a couple versions of her own over the years as well as a number of other fairy tale retellings.
Art was provided by the lovely Cheru, who has my eternal gratitude for illustrating the scene that made me want to write the whole fic.
